Spectrum and Filter
★ Spectrum (pl. spectra)- the structure of a complex sound using a two-dimensional diagram
- horizontal: frequency
vertical: relative amplitude
cf. spectra - frequency-domain representations
waveforms - time-domain representations
- Important for two reasons
1) highly convenient way of visualizing the internal structures of complex sounds
It makes it easy to compare one sound with another.
2) A sort of spectral analysis of incoming sound is performed by the auditory system,
and it brings us closer to the way in which the auditory system 'sees' an incoming sound.
(than a waveform)
- Spectra of aperiodic sounds
ㆍan infinite number of sine wave components infinitely close together
ㆍnot possible to draw individual vertical lines for all of the components
★ Spectrogram
- amplitude, time, frequency information
horizontal: timevertical: frequency
: energy
★ FIlter
1. Pass band
2. Stop band
[Lab]
Filter
- Stop band filter
