실험음성학 2주차 - Types of Sounds & How to use Praat

[이론] Sound Wave는 Sound를 표현하는 방식이다. ★ Sound Wave는 크게 세 가지 종류로 나뉜다. 1. Periodic : cyclic and repeating pattern - sine wave voiced sonorants (vowel and sonorant consonants) F0 : fundamental frequency (related to pitch) 2. Aperiodic : no repeating pattern (1) Aperiodic countinuous  : random and no repeating pattern, noisy voiced and voiceless fricatives (ex) aspiration of plosive) (2) Transient : very brief duration, resemble periodic wavefroms but the movments die away too quickly stop sonorants -> 다양한 양상을 보임에도 이 sound waveform들은 모두 sine waves 로 구성된다 (by combining sine waves). ★ Periodic wave의 경우, 모든 component wave가 F0의 배수 관계의 주파수를 가질 수 있다는 특징이 있다. 이러한 특징을 정립하는 데 Joseph Fourier가 큰 기여를 했기 때문에 sine wave component는 ' Fourier Analysis'라고 불리기도 한다. ★ F0의 배수 관계를 가지는 주파수를 harmonics 라고 부른다.     ex) if F0=100Hz, 200Hz=second harmonic, 300Hz=third harmonic, and so on          (F0 그 자체가 first harmonic이다.) ★ Sine wave는 frequency와 amplitude를 통해 명시될 수 있다. - Amp...

[이론] ★ Broadband and Narrowband - Broadband :  spectrogram의 대역폭을 넓게 잡는 것 - frequency가 broad하고, time이 narrow하다. - Praat의 spectrogram은 broadband가 디폴트로 세팅되어 있다. (0.005s) 장점: time information을 정확하게 관측할 수 있다. 단점: frequency information을 정확히 관측하기 어렵다. - Narrowband :  spectrogram의 대역폭을 좁게 잡는 것 - frequency가 narrow하고, time은 broad하다. 장점: frequency information을 정확하게 관측할 수 있다. 단점: time information을 정확히 관측하기 어렵고 따라서 duration을 파악하기 어렵다. → time과 frequency는  상보적인 관계 이다. ★ Pre-emphasis 고주파수는 amplitude가 낮고 energy의 유/무를 알기 어렵다. 따라서 pre-emphasis를 통해 고주파수의 amplitude를 높여주는 방식을 사용할 수 있다. ★ Source-filter theory of speech production (= Acoustic theory of speech production) - Source: Vocal folds를 통해 나오는 것 - Filter: 어떤 shape를 취하냐에 따라 소리의 종류가 달라진다. 특정한 주파수의 에너지를 gaining, boosting한다. (passband, stopband filter처럼 특정 frequency를 통과시키거나 막지 않는다.) ★ Spectrogram - striation 좁은 것: 성대가 열리고 닫히는 속도가 빠른 것 넓은 것: 성대가 열리고 닫히는 속도가 느린 것 검정색 부분: 성대가 열린 것 흰색 부분: 성대가 닫힌 것 → time information 알기 쉬워진다.
